Bhubaneswar: Normal life has come to a standstill in Manmunda town in Boudh district since this morning as residents have begun observing a 12-hour bandh to press for early construction of a bypass to avoid rush and accidents in the town.
Schools, colleges, shops and other business establishments and Government offices have remained closed. Similarly, vehicular movement has been disrupted as agitators have blocked the road by burning tyres at different places.
“We demand that a bypass be constructed soon as a heavy rush of vehicles is being mark every day in the main road in the town. Accidents are occurring due to rush. The concerned authorities and the district administration have taken no action even though we had placed the demand many times earlier,” said agitators.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed in the town to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the bandh.
