MAINLAND CHINA – BINGE OVER THE SPREAD AND FLAVOUR FOR LUNCH

Our appointment was with Mr. Priya and Executive Chef Debu to do an article on Hunan Cuisine. The discussion was quite lively and it became more interesting during our binge on the buffet spread. Mainland China is known for its Chinese fine dining experience for all food lovers. A visit is a culinary affair, if you are craving for authentic Chinese food in the first smart city, then Mainland China is the place to go. You can either opt for a buffet or a-la-carte. The options and the taste are simply outstanding.

When you step into the restaurant, you’ll be taken over by the suave and welcoming Chinese interiors. We opted for the lavish buffet. So many options, so mouthwatering options and we wanted to try a little bit of everything. That’s the central culinary attraction.

For vegetarian options, we started with a Tomato and Basil soup. The aromatic basil and the eloquent winter tomatoes pair the best. What better way to start a lavish meal? Cottage Cheese Salt & Pepper, crispy baby corn & vegetable wontons followed the soup. For the main course, they had vegetable Hakka noodles; Toban fried rice, and tossed vegetables in ginger chili paired with a vegetable salad. Also, you can pick your desired side dishes from vegetable dumplings in green chili sauce, Sweet and Sour Vegetables, and Exotic Vegetables with Dry red Chillies and Vinegar. Each dish had their individuality and you can taste each vegetable’s crunch along with the condiments.

For non-vegetarian options, we started off with chicken manchow soup. Oh, what a soup! Perfect balance of flavors and tenderness of the meat made the soup one of the best. We started with some marvelous, crunchy seafood wontons, Jiang’s Chili Chicken, Pan Fried Chili Fish and Shrimp with Greens and Garlic. For the main course, we have some Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Hakka Noodles. For side dishes, Mainland China presents Lamb and Capsicum in Red Pepper Sauce, Fish in Dragon Chili Sauce, Crab in Hot Beans and Chicken with Asparagus and Chili Oyster Sauce.

The spices had their pungency and the food was exotic & healthy. Though stuffed with the best laid out lunch but we never felt bloated a unique characteristics of Chinese cuisine.

One of the most delicious things we tried at Main Land China was the Wontons. So crunchy, crispy and the stuffing made with love to perfection. You can definitely call the wontons one of their signature dishes. No meal is complete at Main Land China are the Chinese Dumplings? We, of course, tried their steamed vegetarian and chicken dumplings. After trying dumplings here, I don’t think we can enjoy dumplings or momos anywhere else in Bhubaneswar!

No buffet is complete without some delicious desserts. Main Land China provides some out-of-the-world desserts on their buffet menu. Caramel Pudding, Mango Pudding, Nuttie Brownie, Vanilla Sponge Cake, and the best Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream.

If you ask me to pick my favourite in Mainland China, it will be their dumplings and the Mango Pudding. After you are done with your lavish, royal meal, don’t forget to wash it all down with some aromatic and delicious Jasmine Tea.

Post Script: We went to Main Land China to do our research on Hunan Cuisine but ended up on this lavish spread. This will continue on Hunan Cuisine with our lively interaction with Mr. Priya, Corporate Chef Indraneel and  Executive Chef Debu.
