Maharathy granted conditional bail

Bhubaneswar: Former BJD Minister and party’s Pipili candidate Pradeep Maharathy, who was arrested and sent to jail on April 22, for attacking an election flying squad and Static Surveillance Team that had raided his farmhouse on April 21 night, was granted conditional bail.

Maharathy was granted bail by Special designated court on two bail bonds of Rs 50,000 each.

The BJD heavyweight and his men are accused of brutally thrashing an executive magistrate, Rabi Narayan Patra, who had led a fifteen member team to his farmhouse at Hunkeipur village after a tip-off that alcohol and money and was being distributed there to influence voters.

He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the executive magistrate on Monday and since then he is undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital here.
