Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal today postponed its hearing on Mahandi water sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh to July 13 as both the States sought four-week time to comply with the Tribunal’s order regarding amicable solution.

Both the States sought the four-week time as the third coordination meeting could not be conducted due to Cyclone Fani that ravaged the coastal Odisha on May 3. Admitting their pleas, the Tribunal fixed July 13 as the next date of hearing.

Earlier on three occasions, the Tribunal directed both the Odisha and Chhattisgarh to hold yet another round of talks to arrive at amicable solution over sharing of Mahanadi water.

The Tribunal was scheduled to give its verdict on March 30, but deferred the date to May 11. As the two parties failed to arrive at any solution, the Tribunal urged the two States to go for yet another talks and deferred the date to May 11.

Earlier on February 9 and March 9 and 30, the Tribunal directed the two Governments to amicably resolve the water-sharing dispute.
