LVPEI launches eye care mobile van to reach doorstep of rural Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: With an aim to avail advanced eye care close to people, L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) on Thursday flagged off a mobile eye diagnostic van ‘Pashyantu’ in collaboration with Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the mobile van that aims to cover every LVPEI Odisha secondary eye care centre twice a month. This is a great initiative by OMC and L V Prasad Eye Institute. It will take eye care to doorstep of rural Odisha. It will greatly benefit people of Odisha in general and the people in mining districts in particular, said the Chief Minister. Currently, LVPEI Odisha has secondary eye care centre in Keonjhar, Rajgangpur, Rayagada and Berhampur. Many of the eye disorders, particularly glaucoma (high pressure in the eye) and retina (diabetic retinopathy) need advanced diagnostic tests and treatment by a specialist ophthalmologist.  ‘Pashyantu’ the mobile van with high-end equipment would visit all district-based eye care centres of LVPEI every month along with the specialists, informed the LVPEI.
