Lord Jagannath owns 60, 822 acres of land, a lot of it encroached

Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: Lord Jagannath, listed as a landlord in the Odisha government’s revenue records, owns over 60, 822 acres of land across the country. The Puri Jagannath temple owns 60,426.943 acres of land spread in 24 districts in Odisha and 395.252 acres of land in another six states of the country – West Bengal 322.930 acres, Andhra Pradesh 17.020 acres, Maharastra 28.218 acres, Madhya Pradesh 25.110 acres, Bihar 0.274 acres and Chhatisgarh 1.700 acres. Record of rights of 34,803.013 acres of land has been possessed by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration. As many as 864 illegal encroachment cases have been filed to free 151.465 acres of land from encroachers in seven districts of the state under section 16-A(1) of Shree Jagannath Temple Act-1955. This was informed by Law Minister Pratap Jena responding a question of Athmallik MLA Ramesh Chandra Rai on Tuesday.
