LOPAR over north west bay may trigger heavy rains in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 7: Widespread rains may be experienced in south Odisha from August 9 as a low pressure area (LOPAR) is likely to form over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining west central bay, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), SOA Deemed to be University here, said on Friday. The LOPAR is likely to form on the evening of August 9 and the system might oscillate over north-west Bay of Bengal till August 11, Dr. S.C.Sahu, Director, CEC, said. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall could occur in the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur and Balangir between August 10 to 12, he said. The system was likely to move in a northwest ward direction towards the Chhatisgarh-Jharkhand border and may result in heavy precipitation in the north Odisha and coastal districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Cuttack.
