Bhubaneswar: Governor Ganeshi Lal, Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and leaders across political divide attended a prayer meeting in the memory of the senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today here.
Describing Jaitley as his guru and guide, Union Minister Pradhan said, “I shared a deep personal bond with Jaitley ji. His mentorship steered me through doubt and dilemma and always had a calming influence on me.”
“It was Jaitley saheb who allocated funds for Lord Jagannath’s Nabakalabera and approved Lord Jagannath’s Nabakalebara Commemorative Coins, on my request. He had framed sentences in his budget document for allocating funds to commemorate the 200 years of Paika rebellion,” remembered the Union Minister.
Leaders of various political parties, including BJD leaders Debi Prasad Mishra, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Congress leader Suresh Routray, were present at the condolence meeting, which was organised by BJP, State unit.
Jaitley (66) died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on August 24.
