Puri: Lakhs of devotees thronged holy town of Puri to see the Suna Besha (golden attire) of Lord Jagannath and His siblings.
The deities Lord Jagannath – His elder brother Balabhadra and their sister Goddess Subhadra wore gold ornaments which are adorned with various precious stones in their respective chariots – Nandighosh of Lord Jagannath, Taladhwaj of Lord Balabhadra and Debadalan of Goddess Subhadra.
At around 4 pm, Bhandara Mekapa servitors (store keepers of the deities’ ornaments) carried out the gold ornaments from the Ratna Bhandar and handed them over to the Puspalak servitors atop the chariots.
Elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been made by for crowd management and smooth conduct of Suna Besha. Hundreds of armed security personnel have been also been deployed to ensure the ritual take place smoothly.
