Kin of dead woman polling officer to get Rs 33 lakh indemnity

Bhubaneswar: Family of Gram Rojgar Sevak, Sanjukta Digal, who was shot dead by Maoists while she was on poll duty, will receive compensation as per Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar.

Kumar said the next of the kin of the deceased Sanjukta will get around Rs 30 lakh compensation as per the ECI guidelines.

The ultras gunned down Sector Officer Sanjukta Digal when she was taking a team of poll personnel to a booth. She was shot dead when she got down from the vehicle to check a suspicious object lying on the road while passing through a jungle near Balandapada village under Gochhapada police station limits.

The mishap occurred in Phulbani Assembly segment under Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat.

Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituencies will go to elections in the third phase on April 23.
