Bhubaneswar, June 11: The Odisha government has decided to construct Kantakabi Memorial in Bhadrak.
Bhadrak is the the native place of ‘Bande Utkal Janani’ writer Kantakabi Laxmikant Mohapatra.
The Kantakabi Memorial will be with an investment of Rs 1.5 crore and the Culture Department will bear the cost.
On June 7, the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accorded state song status to ‘Bande Utkal Jananai’.
The song was penned by Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra. This song was first sung at the Utkal Sammilani’s Conference at Balasore in 1912 and was used as a weapon by the Utkal Sammilani to emancipate Odisha. When Odisha became a state on 1 April 1936, this song was sung.
