New Delhi, Feb 27: Former Congress president and Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday remembered Judge Loya, who died in 2014.
Taking to Twitter the Congress leader said: “Remembering the brave Judge Loya, who wasn’t transferred.”
Gandhi’s tweet came after the President of India ordered the transfer of Justice S Muralidhar of the Delhi High Court to the Punjab and Haryana HC, days after the Supreme Court collegium made the recommendation.
Justice Loya had allegedly died of cardiac arrest in Maharashtra’s Nagpur in 2014. He was hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case of Gujarat in which BJP leader, Amit Shah, was named as an accused. Shah was given a clean chit in the Sohrabuddin case.
Similarly, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on twitter wrote: “The midnight transfer of Justice Muralidhar isn’t shocking given the current dispensation, but it is certianly sad and shameful.”
On Wednesday, President Ram Nath Kovind ordered transfer of Justice S Muralidhar, who slammed Delhi to Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Supreme Court had recommended his transfer on 12 February.
A notification from the Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law and Justice said: “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice S Muralidhar, Judge of the Delhi High Court, as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and to direct him to assume charge of his office in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.”
