Bhubaneswar: Fear of elephants has gripped the Kutamenda village under Ulunda forest range in Subarnapur district since last night.
According to elephants, a herd of elephants entered Kutamenda last night and damaged as many as four houses. They ate up large quantities of paddy too.
On being informed by scared villagers, forest personnel have rushed to the village and are trying to drive away the pachyderms into deep jungle.
Villagers have demanded compensation for houses damaged and paddy eaten up by the elephants. They have blamed the forest department for the damages caused by the jumbos.
