Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: The SOA lit-fest is a celebration of words, ideas and authors - not of celebrities, said panelists at a session ‘Literature & the Fifth Column: A Troubled Marriage’ on the second day of SOA Literary Festival here on Sunday. Now-a-days media and literary festivals have turned festival of celebrities but this SOA lit-fest is an exception, the panelists praised. Kuldeep Kumar, Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee and Kedar Mishra took part in the conversation with Pranjal Dhar. “Dependence of media on advertisement was there, is there and will be there for survival,” said the panelists during the conversation. Celebration of celebrities has become a trend in media and now-a-days what the journalists speak during prime time shows is inhuman, the panelists raised concern. There is no place for literature and culture in the electronic media while space for human science is reducing day-by-day and advertisement plays such a vital role to run a media house that today the editor is forced to drop the news to carry advertisement in the front page. While serious issues are being treated as boring elements, people have started commenting on the credibility of media though people still believe in print media.
