New Delhi, 11/11: Agitating students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here went on rampage on Monday over fees hike and dress code. The police used water cannon to disperse the irate mob from the spot. According to reports, agitated students barged into the venue of the ongoing convocation ceremony of All India Technical Education Council being held in the university campus. Police clashed with the irate students, who wanted to move forward to lodge their protest over the proposed fees hike and the dress code. Vice President of India Venkaiah Naudu was on dais gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The agiating students decided to descend on the convocation venue as they were not allowed to meet the vice chancellor earlier. The mess dues has been increased by around 30 times and the mess dues has been more than doubled. Similarly, the hostel rules have been amended to make the attendance of the boarder mandatory by 11.30 pm. The university authorities, on the other hand, defend the fees revision stating that the fee structure had not been revised since last 14 years. Moreover, the revised fees were much lower than the market rate.
