Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda Congress MLA Naba Kishore Das today met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here seeking his intervention for daily flight to Jharsuguda. He also demanded that the airport be named after Veer Surendra Sai officially.
“We had two genuine demands. Firstly, daily commercial flights to Jharsuguda and secondly the Jharsuguda airport be named after Veer Surendra Sai Airport. Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the airport be named after Veer Surendra Sai, but it is yet to declare officially,” Das told reporters here after meeting the Chief Minister.
Notably, Das along with his supporters and various organisations had staged demonstration in front the airport for last few days to press their demands.
He demanded flight operations from Jharsuguda to Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata at the earliest.
Das said they had extended all support to the Prime Minister in inauguration of the airport here as the latter assured that flight operations would continue from the Jharsuguda to many cities of the country.
“Unfortunately, flight operations have been stopped since its inauguration. We will gherao the airport if flight operation doesn’t resume and the name is not changed,” said Das.
