Bhubaneswar: Villagers in Jashipur-Raruan block in Mayurbhanj district are in a state of fear as a herd of elephants have wrecked havoc by damaging houses and eating up paddy plants in acres of land in the aera.
According to reports, as many as 22 elephants coming from a nearby jungle of neighbouring Jharkhand moved through villages and ate up and destroyed paddy plants on acres of land. During night hours, they damaged as many as five houses, according to reports. The pachyderms are still moving in the area.
On being informed by locals, forest officials have reached the spot and are trying to drive away them to deep jungle.
