Bhubaneswar: Senior leader Baijayant Panda today joined BJP and said it took him 20 years to reach there.
“It took me 20 years to reach here. I accept the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah and believe that it necessary for the development of the country,” said Panda after joining the saffron party.
Panda, who represented Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat till his resignation from Lok Sabha last year, joined the party in the presence of party chief Shah, Union Ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
The industrialist-politician was suspended from BJD for alleged anti party activities last year. Later, he resigned from the party as well as Lok Sabha in May and June last year.
Panda has been at the receiving end of Patnaik’s displeasure after he called for ‘introspection’ in the wake of BJP’s sterling performance in 2017 panchayat elections. Since Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, Panda has been heaping praise on him while questioning Patnaik’s working style through newspaper articles.
