In first Covid-19 case in Odisha prison, Puri jail inmate tests positive

Puri, May 17: Odisha reported its first Covid-19 case in jail after an under trial prisoner lodged in Puri jail tested positive for the deadly virus. The 32-year-old accused was arrested on May 15. Around 30 police personnel including IIC of Kumbharpada police station have also been sent to quarantine after the accused came in contact with the police personnel. Sources said that the 32-year-old accused was nabbed for allegedly committing snatching two days ago. Police have sent his swab samples for Covid-19 after his arrest. The accused was finally sent to jail on Friday evening. Police said that all the staffs including the IIC of the police station have been asked to remain under quarantine. “Disinfection of the police station building and PCR vans is continuing and we will also deploy additional manpower for smooth functioning of the police station. Swabs of all police personnel will be sent for tests on Monday,” said a senior police official.
