Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned that thunderstorm and lightning with intense spells of rainfall are likely to occur in five districts in the State between 4 pm and 7 pm today.
“Moderate thunderstorm and lightning with intense spells of rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Keonjhar 01/1600 hrs IST and 01/1900 hrs IST,” said the latest IMD bulletin.
It asked the people of these districts to take shelter in nearby buildings or other safe locations to avoid any mishap during the period.
Meanwhile, another IMD bulletin informed that yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of westcentral Bay of Bengal and south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts and extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height.
It also warned that under its influence a low pressure area is very likely to develop over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours and become more marked subsequently.
