Bhubaneswar: At least nine districts have been put on thunderstorm and lightning alert till 5.30 pm today.
The local IMD centre alerted Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajpati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Koraput districts about the possible thunderstorm and lightning strikes between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm.
“Moderate thunderstorm/lightning with light to moderate rainfall and gusty wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph likely to occur one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajpati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Koraput between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm,” warned the latest IMD bulletin.
Meanwhile, the heatwave condition continues to intensify in the State with nine places of the State recording temperatures above 44 degree Celsius on Saturday. Titlagarh seemed to have turned into a burning cauldron as it recorded temperature of 46.5 degree Celsius, the maximum for any station this summer.
Besides Titlagarh, Bolangir too recorded temperature above 46 degree Celsius while Talcher recorded a temperature of 45.7 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur 45.2 degree Celsius, Sonepur, Hirakud, Bhawanipatna and Angul 44.8 degree Celsius, 44.5 degree Celsius, 44.3 degree Celsius and 44.1 degree Celsius, respectively on Saturday.
