IMD issues thundershower, lightning alert for six districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Centre issued thundershower and lightning alert for as many as six districts between 1.15 pm and 4.15 pm today.

“Moderate thundershower and lightning with one or two spells of rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur between 14/1315 hrs IST and 14/1615,” said the latest IMD bulletin.

Meanwhile, around 17 blocks have received rainfall between 100 mm and 200 mm. So far, eight districts have recorded surplus rainfall while 15 districts have recorded normal rainfall. Continuous rain over past few days has triggered flood-like situation in the State while allaying the drought threat in Odisha.

In last 24 hours, Bolangir and Bargarh districts have received maximum amount rainfall with Bolangir block witnessing a record 555 mm of rain, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi.

More than 2 lakh people of 124 villages were hit by rain and flood-like situation, he added.
