Illegal gun manufacturing unit at OUAT: Cops seek Nrusingha’s remand

Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police today moved a local court here seeking a three-day remand of Nrusingha Nayak, who was arrested on April 15 for running an illegal weapon manufacturing unit from his quarters near Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here, for further interrogation.

Nayak, a resident of Sarakantara on the city outskirts was arrested by the Khandagiri police, was working as a maintenance supervisor at OUAT.

Notably, acting on a tip-off about an explosion, Khandagiri police rushed to Nayak’s quarters and traced a massive cache of explosive materials used for making explosives like iron nails, gun powder. Three country-made pistols were recovered from the spot.

During interrogation, police will try to ascertain from where the accused was procuring the explosive materials and to whom he was selling the weapons.

Meanwhile, Nayak was suspended following his arrest.
