Bhubaneswar: The State Government has sent Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof Radhamadhab Dash and Higher Education Director Parmeswarn B to Agartala to resolve the dispute ensued between Odia students pursuing study there and local students.
“On learning that Odia students were facing problems in Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, the DG(P) spoke to his counterpart in Tripura to ensure security of the students, Prof. Radha Madhab Dash, VC, SJSU, Puri & Parmeswaran B, IAS, Director visiting Agartala to sort out the matter,” tweeted Higher Education Department.
Meanwhile, Odisha DGP also spoke to his Tripura counterpart seeking protection for the Odia students.
Notably, a group of Odia students studying at the Agartala Rashtriya Sanskruta Sansthan in Tripura were reportedly beaten up severely by local students on Wednesday over some issues.
The matter came to light after a reputed Odia news channel Prameya News7 has brought this to the fore. Both boys and girl students belonging to Odisha are now staying in a closed room as they apprehend that they might be attacked by the local students again any time.
Though a complaint has been lodged, the Agartala police have not yet taken any action against the accused local students. They have only visited the boys’ hostel where Odia students are residing, said Laxmidhar, a student over phone.
The Odia students have been terrorised so much that they have now demanded that the Odisha Government intervene and take measures to rescue them and bring them back to Odisha.
“We don’t want to pursue study anymore here. We want to return to Odisha safely. Our life is not at all safe here,” said some students.
