Balianta, July 28: Even though the state government has prohibited counter sale of wine till July 31 in four districts including Khordha, a liquor shop at Brahmnasadhangi under Balianta police limits is reportedly selling wine during the lock down.
On July 16, Odisha government had announced complete lockdown in the districts of Ganjam, Khordha, Cuttack and Jajpur and Rourkela Municipal Corporation for 14 days. The government had allowed the shops dealing with essential items to remain open till 1 pm. The government has also allowed the sale of liquor only on the online mode. However, the wine shop in Balianata has been ‘selling’ liquor at the counter openly defying the lock down norms.
“The wine shop has been allowed to remain open during lock down and our shop is half opened,” said salesman of the wine shop.
On being asked, the Inspector in charge (IIC) of Balianta police station said, “Wine shops have been allowed to sell liquor only on online mode and no shop is allowed to sell at the counter.”
