Govt withdraws controversial booklet on Gandhiji; concerned employee given compulsory retirement ; two officers asked to show cause.

Bhubaneswar, 16/11: The state government withdrew controversial booklet on Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday following protest in the assembly and outside. The official responsible for the faux pas over the death of Gandhiji was  given compulsory retirement from the service while two offices were issued show cause notice. This was informed by School and Mass Education Samir Ranjan Dash in the state assembly on Saturday. He was directed by the Speaker on Friday to make a statement in the House today after the issue was agitated in the assembly. Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra had demanded apology or resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the issue. The issue had sparked off protest across the state and veteran Gandhian leaders had sought the intervention of Naveen. The booklet published by the school and mass education department had said that Gandhiji’s death was caused due to accidental sequence of events. School and Mass Education Minister Dash said in his statement , “ The state government had no intention to mislead the students or to change the cause of Mahatma Gandhi’s death. It was purely unintentional”. The minister said that in respect to concern of the state assembly, the state government has withdrawn the said booklet. “ The booklet will be redistributed among the students within a month after making appropriate correction”
