Bhubaneswar: The State Government today asked all district Collectors to take precautionary measures to protect people and also harvested crops from cold conditions and rain as the IMD has forecast rain and cold wave condition in the State between Friday and Sunday.
The Government also asked the Collectors to ensure that farmers shift their harvested paddy to safer places and take necessary steps to protect paddy in mandis. This apart, Collectors have been asked to ensure shelters/school buildings are kept open at night for homeless/needy people.
The IMD has indicated through weather bulletin that thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to occur in Keonjhar, Mayubhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Bhadrak, balasore, jajpur, Koraput, Cuttack, Khurda, Sonepur, Boudh and Sundergarh on Friday and Saturday. Thereafter, cold condition is likely to prevail in the State during next three days due to gradual fall in minimum temperatures.
“In view of the above situation, the farmers are advised to shift their harvested paddy to safe places and keep it properly stacked under suitable cover so as to avoid any loss/damage due to rain. Necessary measures should also be taken to protect the paddy in mandis, if any, against rain. Shelters/school buildings may be kept open at night for homeless/needy people for rest to protect them from the cold conditions,” Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said in a letter to all Collectors.
