Bhubaneswar: Girish Chandra Murmu today took oath as first Lieutenant Governor of newly-created Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Gita Mittal administered the oath of office to Murmu as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory.
Murmu, a 1985-batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer, hails from Betnoti in tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district. He was earlier served as the Union Expenditure Secretary and as Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister.
Girish holds a MBA degree from Birmingham University and MA in Political Science from Utkal University. He is eldest of eight siblings – six brothers and two sisters.
