Berhampur, Feb 10: A day after the bus tragedy in Ganjam which claimed 10 lives, the State Government on Monday suspended four officials, including two Junior Engineers (JEs) and two Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) for their carelessness in duty that led to the mishap. Two JEs of the power distribution agency Southco and two SDOs of the Rural Development Department were placed under suspension by the Government, said Energy Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra following a high-level meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan today. The Minister also said that the 11-kv electric wire will be lifted as it should be at a height of 20-feet from the road. All such wires hanging below 20-feet would be identified by the JEs and later they would report before the Circle Superintending Engineer, he added. In the preliminary inquiry report of mishap, the Southco blamed the Rural Development Department. “In July 2018, the department converted the rural road to a concrete road almost filling three to four feet and causing less ground clearance of the road,” reads the report.
