New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley passed away on Saturday. He was 66.
He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS here, where he was admitted on August 9 after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness. Since then he was on life support, with a multidisciplinary team of doctors monitoring his condition.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and veteran BJP leader LK Advani had visited the hospital to enquire about his health.
In 2018, he had undergone a kidney transplant at the AIIMS. In September 2014, Jaitley had undergone bariatric surgery because of a long-standing diabetic condition.
Due to his ill-health, Jaitley had also not contested the Lok Sabha elections this year.
A lawyer by profession, Jaitley was an important part of first Narendra Modi Government. He held the Finance and Defence portfolios.
