Paralakhemundi: Congress leader and former Paralakhemundi MLA K Surya Rao today quit the party, alleging that he was ignored and sidelined by senior leaders.
He sent his resignation letter to All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi.
In his letter, he held Odisha PCC responsible for his defeat in Paralakhemundi. He alleged that no star campaigner had turned up to campaign for him. Moreover, inordinate delay in allotment of tickets also led to his defeat, he alleged.
Yesterday, he announced to resign from the party with meeting his supporters. He also hinted at joining BJD shortly.
He had contested the 2019 elections on Congress ticket but lost to K Narayan Rao of BJP.
In 2014, Surya Rao had defeated K Narayan Rao, who had then contested on BJD ticket, by 1,454 votes
