Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police has arrested five persons in connection with the ransacking of Congress party headquarters over ticket distribution for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Capital police station officials nabbed the five accused after raiding different places in the city. The arrest was made on the basis of CCTV footages. Manhunt is on to nab other accused.

Notably, the discontentment over ticket distribution in Congress took an ugly turn on Saturday night when a group of youths barged into the party headquarters – Congress Bhavan – near the Master Canteen Square and went on a rampage. The protestors were protesting the announcement of Rashmirekha Mohapatra as the party’s candidate from the Ekamra-Bhubaneswar assembly constituency.

They damaged tables, chairs and many computers inside the office. An FIR was lodged by the Congress at Capital police station in this connection.
