Bhubaneswar: Dr Damodar Rout, a big name in Odisha politics and is known for being loudmouth, was finally expelled from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on the charges of anti-party activities.
The 75-year-leader, who has served the State as a Minister in earlier Biju Patnaik Government and the present Naveen Patnaik Government for long, was dismissed from primary membership of the party by party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, confirmed a party release.
For a quite few days now, his ‘uncontrolled’ mouth was so wide open that party leaders and activists of his Jagatsinghpur district met the party chief and sought appropriate action against him. In public, he raised allegation of sapling and cooperative bank scams, opening avenues for opposition parties to counter the Government in and outside the State Assembly.
Earlier, he had been driven away from the State Cabinet for targeting party leaders on various issues. Subsequently the vice-president post had also been taken from him.
Party chief and CM Naveen Patnaik, who is currently in New Delhi, issued orders for expulsion of Damodar Rout on Wednesday evening, putting a full stop to all abuzz.
