Bhubaneswar: General elections for Parliamentary and Assembly seats are likely to be held for consecutive fifth time in Odisha in 2019 for which preparations have been expedited, informed Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar here on Thursday.
Addressing a Press meet at his office, the CEO informed that final voters’ list will be published on January 21 in the State.
Kumar said each EVM comprises three components of ballot units, control units and VVPAT units and Odisha has now 89,347 ballot units, 91,869 control unit and 89,351 VVPAT units which are 114%, 110% and 115% of the requirement, respectively. He said general elections will be held through EVMs with VVPAT units for the first time in Odisha in 2019.
The EVMs to be used in Odisha have been manufactured by the Electronic Corporation of India Limited, Hyderabad. Before elections, all EVMs would be inspected by engineers of the company, he said.
Informing that there are 47,606 polling booths in the State, Kumar said the booths might be increased if number of voters exceeds limits, which would be known after publication of final voters’ list on January 21.
