Bhubaneswar, April 4: In the wake of three positive cases emerging out from Bomikhal alone and the subsequent sealing of the area to contain any further community level spread of COVID-19 pandemic, BMC today carried out a massive disinfection work with the help of Odisha Fire Services Department.
Four fire tenders were engaged during the day (three big and one small) to spray sodium hypochlorite solution in the area. It can be mentioned here that apart from the sealed localities BMC has also carried out disinfection work in major thoroughfares and areas across the city.
Mechanical sweeping was also carried out in Bomikhal area surrounding the roads starting from Cafe Coffee Day lane near Ekamra Talkies to Canal Road in Jharpada, Canal Road to Durga Puja Mandap and Durga Puja Mandap Square to the DCB Bank Square on Cuttack Road and from DCB Bank Square to Cafe Coffee Day lane near Ekamra Talkies.
Not only Bomikhal, but to continue the uninterrupted sanitation work across the city the civic body issued 3,000 passes to sanitation workers.
As the State Capital underwent 48 hours shutdown since last evening, the distribution of PDS supplies will resume later.
Cooked food for 2,450
However, despite the shutdown BMC continued to distribute coocked food to the needy and working class who are hit by the nationwide lockdown and subsequent shutdown. While total 1,750 meals were distributed to distributed during the daytime, 1,700 meal were distributed during the evening hour. Requisition of 250 meals placed by Commisioarate of Police has been distributed by BMC.
During the day while 650 meals were distributed by Gurudwar Singh Sabha, 600 by Umesh Khandelwal and 500 Aahar meals by BMC.
While cooked food were distributed at some major locations by the civic body, 500 packets of ration were also distributed by BMC to needy people who could not come to receive cooked food.
