Fani restoration: Gita Mehta donates Rs 10 lakh to CMRF

Bhubaneswar: Eminent author Gita Mehta donated Rs 10-lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims of Cyclone Fani in the State. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is her younger brother.

Mehta resides in US. Notably, Chief Minister Patnaik was the first ever person to donate his one year’s salary to the CMRF for rebuilding Odisha.

The cyclone has caused massive devastation in parts of Odisha, especially in Puri and Khurda, including capital city Bhubaneswar on May 3. The extreme severe cyclonic storm barrelled through the Odisha coast near Puri.

At least 64 people have been killed in the cyclone.

As per the Situation Report released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), at least 1,50,94,321 people have been affected 159 blocks in 14 districts – Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Puri.
