Fake Maoists arrested for extortion bid in Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna, Aug 9: Three youths were arrested in Kalahandi district while trying to extort money from a trader by posing as Maoist cadres, police said on Sunday. The arrested have been identified as Deba Prasad Nayak, Gangaram Bemal and Chandra Rout. According to police, the trio had been threatening to Tulasiram, a local trader, over phone and had demanded Rs 10 lakh in the name of Naxals. The trio had threatened him with dire consequences if he informed police of the matter. They had extorted Rs 70,000 and were demanding second installment. The trader got suspicious over their phone call and filed a complaint at Jaipatna police station. Police launched a probe and arrested the trio.
