Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Hemananda Biswal’s daughter Sunita Biswal today joined BJD in the presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Hundreds of her followers too joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Welcoming Sunita to the party fold, Patnaik said their joining will certainly strengthen the party.
“I welcome them to the party. I am sure they will strengthen the party further,” said the Chief Minister.
Sunita said she was attracted towards the party and its supremo for its women empowerment schemes like Mission Shakti, bid to implement 33 per cent reservation in Parliament and Assembly and also KALIA scheme for development of farmers.
Earlier on Friday, former Works Secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan too joined the BJD in the presence of Patnaik at Naveen Niwas.
