Eviction around Shreemandir on 3rd day

Bhubaneswar: The eviction drive to clear structures adjacent to the Meghanada Pacheri around the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri continued for consecutive for third day on Wednesday.

The eviction drive, which is going on under the guidance of the district administration in the presence of police personnel, has been conducted peacefully.

The structures of CESU pump house, Singha Dwar police outpost and mobile and shoe stands and other Government buildings have been razed. The statue of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, which was established by Mahatma Gandhi, would be shifted to a different place, said the administration.

The police outpost and the mobile and shoe stands have also been shifted to a different place on the Grand Road.

After demolitions, debris items are being cleared from the Meghanada Pacheri, said the Sub-Collector who was present at the site.

Reports said the recent decision taken in the State Cabinet to implement Justice BP Das Commission’s recommendation to clear 75-metre radius area around the Shreemandir has not yet been implemented. The decision will be implemented soon.
