Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) today took Jyoti Ranjan Beura alias ‘Golden Baba’ on one-day remand for interrogation in connection with two fraud cases registered against him.
The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) yesterday allowed the EOW to take on a one-day remand against his prayer for two-day custody.
Earlier, the Commissionerate police requested the EOW of Crime Branch to take up investigation of two cases registered against the fraudster.
The ‘Golden Baba’ was arrested by Chandrasekharpur police on December 31 in Rs 12.04 crore cheque fraud case.
At least four cases are pending against him in Chandrasekharpur, Laxmisagar and Saheed Nagar police stations in Bhubaneswar.
On Friday, the activists of the students’ wing of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee clashed with police while protesting against the alleged links of Bhubaneswar Municipal Commissioner (BMC) Mayor Anant Narayan Jena with the ‘Golden Baba’.
The protestors alleged that there was nexus between Mayor Jena and Golden Baba.
