Elephant herd from Jharkhand wreaks havoc in Mayurbhanj

Karanjia, July 11: A herd comprising of 17 elephants from neighbouring state Jharkhand wreaked havoc in villages under Sukruli block in Mayurbhanj district. The elephants sneaked into human habitation last night and damaged several house and ate crops stashed in houses. The herd has entered into Kujiam jungle from Jharkhand and has been wreaking havoc in Karanjia area, said locals. Residents of villages near the forest have been living in panic and do not venture out of their houses after sunset. The forest staff said efforts are on to drive away the herd back to Jharkhand.
