Elephant found dead in Balangir, tusks missing

Balangir, Jan 15: The decomposed carcass of a tusker was found from Loisingha forest in the district today. However, the tusks of the elephant were missing. As per reports, the elephant carcass was spotted by few locals five days ago but the forest officials took the matter lightly. Forest officials today reached the spot and conducted a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.  Though the exact cause of the death of the elephant is yet to be ascertained it is being suspected that the pachyderm might have fallen prey to tusk smugglers. Forest officials have started an investigation to ascertain whether the elephant was poached.
