Elections to 4 Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha on March 26

Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: Elections to four Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha will be held on March 26. The seats of Narendra Swain and Sarojini Hembram (BJD) and Ranjib Biswal (Congress) will fall vacant in April this year. Earlier, the seat of Anubhav Mohanty has fallen vacant following his election to Lok Sabha from Kendrapara on BJD ticket. Members of the 147-member of Odisha assembly elect members to the Upper House of the Parliament. At present, the ruling BJD has 112 members in the assembly, BJP 23 and Congress 10.   The Election Commission on Tuesday (February 25) announced that polls to 55 Rajya Sabha seats in 17 states will be held on March 26. Notification for the biennial election will be issued on March 6 and March 13 is the last date of filing nominations. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 16 and last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 18. Counting will be held on the evening of March 26, an hour after end of the polls.
