Dussehra fest ends, campaign for Bijepur by-poll resumes

Bhaneswar: With Dussehra festival is over now and only 10 days left for Bijepur by-election, star campaigners of the three main political parties, BJD, BJP and Congress, are likely to visit Bijepur and campaign for their respective candidates from today.

While the BJD has already initiated campaign for its candidate Rita Sahu, the BJP will soon bring its Central leaders to canvas voters in favour of its nominee Sanath Kumar Gartia.

However, Congress candidate Dilip Kumar Panda will re-initiate its campaign from tomorrow as he has taken rest for some family work today.

Acccording to reports, Ministers of the State, Tukuni Sahu and Snehangini Chhuria, will campaign for Rita today. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to conduct road shows in all the three blocks, Bijepur, Barpali and Gysilat, on October 17 and 18.

Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani and Pratap Sarangi, are likely to join the campaign trail for the BJP candidate on different days from tomorrow .

BJP state president Basant Panda and former Minister KV Singh Deo have already campaigned for Sanat.

Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik, Odisha in-charge Jitendra Singh and other senior leaders of the State Congress are likely to woo voters for Dilip very soon.

The election to the Bijepur seat would be held on October 21 and counting of votes is scheduled on October 24.

Notably, the By-poll has been initiated after BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik vaccated the seat in June this year. Patnaik had own the seat grabbing over 1,10,000 votes and pushing BJP candidate Sanat and Congress candidate Ripumath Seth to distance second and third positions, respectively, in the last assembly elections held in April this year.
