Cuttack: The Cuttack Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) today raided the Dream Shelter Home at Choudwar and rescued more than 50 children.

Sources said the shelter home was operating illegally. Dream Centre shelter home is being run by Good News India NGO.

After the allegation of sexual, mental and physical harassment to inmates came to fore in December last year at one of the shelter homes at Beltikiri in Dhenkanal district run by the NGO, the State Government had ordered the closure of all the homes across the State.

Sources said defying the Government order the NGO was running the shelter home in Choudwar. Today a team of officials led by the CWC and CDPO raided the home and rescued more than 50 children.

In February, the Orissa High Court rejected the bail plea of NGO Good News India managing director Fayaz Rehman and assistant director Udit Lama in connection with sexual harassment at a shelter home in Beltikiri.

Both Rehman and Udit were arrested in December 2018 for allegedly sexually exploiting girl inmates at the shelter home run by the Good News India at Beltikiri.
