Bhubaneswar: The holy Dola festival of Lord Radhakrishna is being observed amid much religious fervor and serenity across Odisha.
Wooden Bimans (palanquins), called Dolas, carrying idols of Radhakrishna move to devotees’ houses on the occasion. Besides, Dola Melana is held in different regions where Bimans from different sahis or villages come and be seated at a specified place for melana (mass puja). Shankirtana, (devotional song presented with a unique way with beating of Mridanga and cymbals. Abhira, a colour powder, is used by villagers on this occasion.
Dola Melana promotes brotherhood among villages. Known as a mass festival, the Dola Purnina falls a day before the Holi festival.
