Bhubaneswar: The State Government today suspended a doctor for prescribing medicine other than free hospital supply under Niramaya scheme.
Biju Agrawal, paediatric consultant, of the Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in Bolangir district was placed under suspension with immediate effect.
According a communiqué issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department, the matter was detected during Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pramod Meherda’s visit to the Patnagarh SDH today following which the Government placed him under suspension pending disciplinary action against him.
Agrawal had asked the attendant of a one-year-old child suffering from diarrhoea to bring certain medicine and injection from market. However, the matter came to the notice of Meherda. During inquiry, it was revealed that the medicine and injection that was prescribed by Agrawal was not given to a baby diarrhoea patient.
Seeing such gross misconduct of the doctor, Meherda immediately placed Agrawal under suspension.
The State Government has been supplying medicines free of cost under the Niramaya scheme.
