Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for speeding up Rourkela Smart City Project works.
Noting that despite total sanction of Rs 376 crores (Rs 188 crores each) from Centre and Odisha Governments between 2015-16 and 2017-18 to Rourkela Smart City Limited, only Rs 22.23 crore have been spent on the project so far, Pradhan in a letter to them said, “Rourkela’s progress in the Smart City Project is a matter of great concern.”
“As per information received from the public information officer, Rourkela Smart City Ltd, in response to an RTI query filed by Dhiren Senapathy, it is understood that Central and Odisha Governments have sanctioned a total of Rs 376 crores (Rs 188 crore each) to RSL from 2015-16 to 2017-18 for the project,” said Union Minister Pradhan, who hails from Odisha.
“I am disappointed to note that expenditure incurred by RSL thus far is only Rs 22.23 crores of which Rs 16.37 crore have been extended towards consultancy fees and salaries. It is unfortunate that four years since the sanction of grants from the Central and the State Governments, RSL has not been able to show significant progress in the project,” said Pradhan.
“Keeping in mid the welfare of the citizens of Rourkela, I request your personal intervention in expediting the resolution for speeding up progress of the Rourkela Smart City project,” urged Union Minister Pradhan, who hails from Odisha.
