Bhubaneswar: Directer General of Police (DGP), Odisha Dr RP Sharma on Monday confirmed death of five Maoists in an encounter ensued between Red rebels and SOG personnel in Kalimela area in Malkangiri district early this morning.
The deceased included two women and three men and all belonged to Kalimela Dalam area, he said.
Sharma informed that the SOG personnel began an operation after receiving information regarding Masoist’s presence in a camp. While five of Maoists were killed, grenade and many other lethal weapons were seized from them. While the number of naxals presient in the camp was yet to be known, the combing operation was still on, he said.
He said the anti-Maoist operation conduced this time was different from the earlier ones as Maoists are moving holding grenades in their hands.
Earlier, Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena had informed the media that five Maoists had been killed in an encounter ensured in the Paplur jungle between the SOG and DVF personnel and the Red rebels.
