Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma today reviewed the security arrangements for the ensuing annual Rath Yatra in Puri. This year Rath Yatra falls on July 4.
Special DG Sunil Ray among many top cops attended the preparatory meeting at the DGP’s camp office here.
“Due to widespread damage to CCTVs due to recent Cyclone Fani, temporary cameras will be installed to check untoward incidents. Security will be monitored from a control room. Adequate security forces will be deployed for the safety of railway passengers and to maintain law and order during the event,” said Sharma after the meeting.
He informed that a coordination meeting will be held with BSF, CRPF and Coast Guard soon.
Since Rath Yatra will be observed on July 4, it will be a tough time for the State Government to put power, water supply and basic infrastructure in order. Every year, nearly 10 lakh pilgrims throng Puri during the nine-day annual car festival of Lord Jagannath and His siblings.
The extremely severe cyclonic storm hit barrelled through the Odisha coast in Puri on May 3 causing massive damage in the pilgrim town.
